Do you ever feel like you don't know how to help those who are brokenhearted? What should I say? Is there anything I can do to take away their pain? At times we may want to run away because we don't know what to do or say. Other times, we dive in with the person but feel overwhelmed by their pain.
After years of being a youth pastor, Brenda Seefeldt started Larger Story Virtual Church. She is a pastor, writer, wife, speaker, and mentor. Her book, I Wish I Could Take Away Your Pain: How to Be That Compassionate Friend, came out of her own story. She knew from an early age that she would not be able to have children. However, God has blessed her with four young boys to mentor. They came to her from troubled families when they were pre-teens. Sadly, two ended up in prison. This has been a growing experience for Brenda as many responded to her in hurtful ways.
Brenda shares that quick responses of "I will pray for you" or a short platitude without being more engaged in the person's story does not help. She shares what it means to healthily carry someone's pain.
