We must learn to sit with someone in what Julie Lynn calls the "dissonant chord" of an unfixable situation. Grief cannot be fixed this side of heaven; rather, processed through.
Called from a young age, Julie Lynn is deeply passionate about coming alongside bereaved people experiencing loss. In the four to six weeks after the funeral, the deceased's loved ones are not only navigating shock, brain fog, and immense sadness, but are also tasked with an overwhelming load of administrative work. Showing up with the support of a meal, helping out around the house, or even a simple phone call can mean so much to the bereaved. Grief is not linear, so provide encouragement for each small step of life for the bereaved as they adjust to their new normal.
Even Jesus, all powerful and almighty, sat in the dissonant chord of death with Mary and Martha. He wept! Be brave and enter into the sadness with a grieving person. Grief is heavy, and to be the hands and feet of Christ means we as a community help carry that pain.
