If anyone knows dogs are man's best friend, it's Rachel Shirley. Rachel has a very unique, yet much needed ministry: as a grief counselor, she walks people through the loss of their pet. Since she was very young, Rachel has always had a love for animals. Today, refers to her beloved boxers as her "fur babies".
While her love for animals is intrinsic to her personality, Rachel observed an even more profound gift within herself: the ability to walk with people through hard times. Having experienced grief in her own life, she has taken what she learned during those hard seasons to extend empathy and compassion for those navigating their grief journey.
Rachel finds that many people are taken aback by the depth of the grief they experience when a pet passes away. The emotional dependence forged between constant touch, eye contact and presence can result in a relationship as strong--or sometimes even stronger--than our human ones.
