#153 Codependent Marriage
Miriam Hampton started her marriage like any other newly-wed: full of optimism, passion and excitement for the future. Five years into the marriage, she found herself wondering if she even loved her husband anymore.
The Holy Spirit convicted her to change her focus, intentionally refocusing from the negative to the positive. She asserts that where we see good, there we see God. Once her heart posture towards her husband changed, she began praying for his deliverance from alcoholism. Proceeding with the knowledge that God loves our spouse more than we do, we open our hands and surrender our desire to control the situation. This is especially difficult in a co-dependent situation, where the dynamic and boundaries of the relationship become so severely warped. But when we let go, God can finally step in and do His work!
It was then that God began renewing Miriam, revealing her identity and worth independent from the role she had taken in on her marriage. It takes two healthy individuals to come together and be who God created them to be.
