In 2023, the U.S. Sergeant General released a report that declared loneliness and isolation to be a national epidemic. In a post-pandemic world we observe a concerning societal pattern of decreased community involvement and a rise in mental illness, political extremism and tribalism.
Hailing from the great state of Texas, Kim Gilson asserts that this is really a spiritual attack. God designed us to exist as the body of Christ; if the enemy can dismantle that cohesion and isolate us, then we are ultimately disconnected from our purpose. While church affiliation has been declining for decades, there is a strong positive correlation between regular church attendance and improved mental health.
Since isolation has become the new social norm, we must intentionally reintegrate ourselves into the unified community we were created to partake in. Above all, our attitude should reflect, "What can I give to this community?"
