#181 Emotional Intelligence

Crown of Beauty International

Society places a high emphasis on IQ-- the "intelligence quotient"--but what about EQ-- the "emotional quotient"?

Relationship coach Valerie Greene's definition of emotional intelligence is the ability to slow down and ask oneself, what feels harmonious in this moment? What can I say that would be in the highest good in this situation? What can I articulate that is most in alignment with Jesus' heart?

In conflict, for example, turning the other cheek and releasing the interaction to Jesus does not mean we repress the emotion. We must allow the courage to feel the emotion first so we then gain clarity on how to proceed forward.

Once we've slowed down enough to feel the emotion, we can then process information with an open heart. I'm upset that my husband didn't do the dishes, but why didn't he do the dishes? He was preparing for a job interview. The ability to process information with an open heart prevents unnecessary reactivity.

We all need care, support, and love. God's message on how to gain those things in our interpersonal relationships is the spirit of collaboration and respect.
